Do your children have school this Sunday? No. Sunday, 25 October 2026 is the first extra holiday of the current school year, and it applies to general-education students at boys' and girls' schools in every region and governorate of Saudi Arabia, according to the school calendars announced by the regional education departments.
How long is the break? Three days in a row. The school week ends on Thursday, 22 October, the usual Friday and Saturday weekend follows, and Sunday is the extra day off. Pupils go back to their classrooms on Monday, 26 October, on their normal timetable, so families have room for a short trip or a visit to relatives without any lessons being missed.
Is the number of extra holidays the same everywhere? Sunday is off for everyone, but the count differs after that. Education departments in the Makkah and Madinah regions and in Jeddah and Taif have only this one extra holiday all year. Other departments, including Riyadh, the Eastern Province, Al-Ahsa, Qassim, Jazan, Najran, Hail, Asir and Al-Jouf, have four.
If you live in one of the four-holiday regions, when are the other three? Sunday, 29 November 2026, then Thursday, 7 January 2027, and finally Sunday, 11 April 2027. The account of your local education department remains the safest place to confirm its calendar.
When is the next longer break? The autumn holiday comes next. It starts when school finishes on Thursday, 19 November 2026 and lasts nine consecutive days.
