International backing for Saudi Arabia in the face of the attacks on its territory keeps growing. The latest sign is a presidential statement from the members of the UN Security Council, first welcomed by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, 16 October, and then by the Council of Ministers at its weekly session in Riyadh on Tuesday, 20 October, chaired by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The Security Council text condemns the Houthis' attacks on civilian sites, airports and energy facilities in the Kingdom, as well as their continuing threats to ships sailing the Red Sea and through the Bab al-Mandab strait. It calls for Resolution 2216 and the resolutions that followed it to be applied in full, and urges practical cooperation to stop weapons and other support from reaching the group.
Minister of Media Salman bin Yousef Al-Dossary relayed the Cabinet's welcome to the Saudi Press Agency after the session, at which ministers also approved new laws on patents and utility models and on industrial designs.
