A minor collision on a busy road can leave any driver unsure what comes next: call Najm or the traffic police, how to get the accident report, and how to get the car repaired on insurance. This guide follows the procedures that Najm for Insurance Services sets out on its official website, from the moment of impact to collecting the repaired vehicle.

What is Najm? Najm is a closed joint-stock company set up in 2007 and supervised by the Insurance Authority. Its 26 shareholders are the insurers licensed to sell motor cover in the Kingdom. It started out inspecting minor road accidents involving insured vehicles and deciding who was responsible, and today it works in more than 40 cities and governorates. Saudis make up 98% of its workforce, and its online services run around the clock.

When do I call Najm, and when the police? Najm handles an accident when at least one of the parties holds a valid policy from a licensed insurer and everyone involved is at the scene. Damage caused by fire or a natural disaster is a different case: you need comprehensive cover, since a third-party policy is not enough. Najm does not deal with accidents involving injuries or deaths, criminal cases, a party who is missing or has fled, situations where none of the parties is insured, or crashes outside the areas it covers. For those, call the unified emergency number 911, traffic accidents on 993, the ambulance on 997, road security on 996 or civil defence on 998.

What should I do at the scene? Once everyone is safe, Najm advises the following:

  • Check that it is safe to step out of the car before you open the door.
  • Switch off the engine and turn on the hazard lights.
  • Place a reflective warning triangle a safe distance behind the car if you have one.
  • Photograph the scene from every side so you can refer back to it.
  • Have your ID, driving licence and vehicle registration ready.
  • Stay put until the response team arrives, and do not act on guesses or opinions from passers-by.

Najm warns that leaving the scene before the procedure is finished can expose a driver to extra violations and fines.

How do I report the accident? There are two main channels: the Najm smartphone app and the toll-free number 199033. Through the app you can log the accident, upload photos of the scene, follow the case, see roughly when the investigator will arrive, and check both the report and your vehicle's policy status. The Najm investigator records the scene on a body-worn camera to protect everyone's rights, and the company stresses that it does not charge the parties anything for attending.

What is the Najm report, and how is fault shared? The investigator's report sets out each driver's share of responsibility, which appears in Najm's services as one of five levels: 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%. A driver who disagrees can file an objection online through the accidents service, which is also where you edit accident details, add damage or another party, and download reports and documents.

How do I follow up after leaving the scene? The app remains the main tool once the inspection is over, showing the status of the report as it moves along and a map of Najm branches with their contact details. The same services are available on the company website, which also carries a page on the principles for protecting insurance customers, useful for anyone who wants to know their rights as a policyholder. Customers can rate their experience afterwards through an option on the website home page.

What happens after the accident? Najm's website lays out five stages for the affected driver:

  • Get the accident report from the Najm website or app.
  • Book an appointment at an approved estimation centre in your city to assess the damage.
  • Submit your insurance claim online through the website or the app.
  • Obtain the repair slip through the Absher platform.
  • Start repairing the vehicle.

Drivers who would rather not handle each stage themselves can use Ashal, a free Najm service that sends a tow truck, then takes care of the damage estimate, the claim and the repair, and returns the car to the place and time the customer chooses, with a guarantee on the quality of the work.

What else is in a Najm account? After signing in, a driver can submit and track claims, see eligibility discount information and insurance details under the vehicles service, and review an insurance record that brings accidents, claims and vehicles together in one place. An insurance surplus service also shows the policyholder's share of any surplus from motor insurance.

What is the latest from Najm? On 1 April 2026 the company announced the appointment of Eng. Mansour bin Falah Abuthnain as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. Earlier, on 29 May 2025, Najm used a workshop at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences to present its move towards digital accident inspection, aimed at faster response and less congestion on the roads. Avoiding a crash is still better than dealing with one, which is why the traffic police keep repeating their warning against mobile phone use while driving.
