Saudi Arabia has strengthened its position as a leading digital economy, ranking among the top five G20 countries for median mobile internet download speeds, according to the Saudi Internet Report 2025 issued by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission.
The Kingdom’s median mobile download speed increased to 216 Mbps in 2025, up from 203 Mbps a year earlier, while internet penetration reached 99.6 percent.
5G Speeds Reach 320 Mbps
The report showed that median 5G download speeds reached 320 Mbps, with latency standing at 24 milliseconds.
Fixed internet performance also improved significantly, with median download speeds rising to 151 Mbps, compared with 120.4 Mbps previously. Upload speeds reached 73 Mbps, while latency stood at eight milliseconds.
Total internet data traffic across the Kingdom reached approximately 69 million terabytes, with domestic traffic accounting for 56 percent and international traffic representing 44 percent.
Monthly Mobile Data Consumption Hits 53 GB Per Person
Saudi Arabia’s increasingly connected population is also consuming substantial amounts of data.
According to the report, 61.3 percent of internet users spend at least seven hours online each day, while average monthly mobile data consumption reached 53 GB per person — approximately three times the global average.
AI Adoption More Than Doubles
Artificial intelligence recorded particularly strong growth, with 45.2 percent of internet users using AI tools, more than double the previous year’s level.
ChatGPT was the most downloaded application in the AI category.
Digital services have also become deeply integrated into everyday activities. Government e-services were used by 96 percent of internet users, while 85.9 percent accessed online banking services and 76.9 percent shopped online.
Apparel and footwear accounted for 87.7 percent of online purchases.
WhatsApp Remains the Most Popular Social Platform
WhatsApp remained Saudi Arabia’s most widely used social media platform, reaching 92.7 percent of users, followed by Snapchat at 83.6 percent and TikTok at 77 percent.
The report also recorded an 89 percent improvement in average latency across the most popular online games, reflecting continued improvements in network performance.
Riyadh accounted for the largest share of internet data traffic at 30.6 percent, followed by Makkah at 20.5 percent and the Eastern Province at 16.8 percent.
Digital Infrastructure Supports Saudi Arabia’s Transformation
IPv6 activation reached 67 percent among users, while approximately 200 Saudi Autonomous System Numbers were registered online.
The latest figures further highlight the expansion of Saudi Arabia’s digital infrastructure and come as the Kingdom ranked first among 159 economies in the International Telecommunication Union’s 2026 ICT Development Index.
Together, these indicators demonstrate the growing role of high-speed connectivity in supporting Saudi Arabia’s digital economy, government services, e-commerce, artificial intelligence adoption and broader technological transformation.
