Saudi Arabia continues to expand its network of protected areas as part of efforts to conserve biodiversity and ensure the sustainable management of natural resources, with 18.3 percent of terrestrial environments and 16.2 percent of marine environments now under protection.
The progress comes as the Kingdom works toward a national target of protecting 30 percent of its terrestrial and marine environments by 2030, in line with the global 30×30 initiative and the environmental sustainability objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

The National Center for Wildlife said Saudi Arabia has made continued progress in implementing its environmental protection objectives while expanding the country’s network of protected areas and improving their management.
Terrestrial protection has now reached 18.3 percent, while 16.2 percent of marine environments are protected, with further programs and initiatives underway to reach the national target by 2030.
