Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has launched the Farmers’ Market Festival in Rafha, bringing together government agencies and private-sector partners in an initiative designed to support local farmers, productive families, and the Kingdom’s long-term food security strategy.
Running for four days, the festival provides farmers with direct marketing opportunities, helping increase the economic value of locally produced agricultural goods while encouraging consumers to buy Saudi products.
Direct Support for Farmers
The event creates a platform where farmers can sell their products directly to consumers, improving market access, increasing income opportunities, and strengthening the local agricultural economy.
It also showcases Rafha’s high-quality agricultural production and highlights the region’s contribution to Saudi Arabia’s food sector.
Wide Range of Local Products
Visitors can explore pavilions featuring dates, fresh vegetables, fruits, honey, and a variety of rural food products produced across the Northern Borders Region.
The festival also includes educational programs promoting sustainable farming practices, environmental awareness, and the importance of supporting domestic agricultural production.
Supporting Vision 2030
Professor Manzer Hussain Siddiqui from King Saud University said such initiatives play a vital role in achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by providing science-based guidance on soil health, crop nutrition, pest management, improved crop varieties, and post-harvest practices.
He noted that Saudi researchers and agricultural specialists continue to assist farmers through research, training, extension services, and sustainable technologies designed for arid environments.
Smart Agriculture for Sustainable Growth
Siddiqui emphasized the importance of expanding the use of drip irrigation, smart irrigation systems, efficient water management, and the safe reuse of treated wastewater to conserve water resources.
He also highlighted the value of cultivating heat-, drought-, and salinity-resistant crops, while expanding greenhouse and hydroponic farming to improve productivity and strengthen the long-term resilience of Saudi Arabia’s agricultural sector.
