Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles and a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia early on Sunday, October 18, according to statements from the coalition.
The coalition said the two ballistic missiles had been fired toward Khamis Mushayt. In a separate statement, coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said a drone had been intercepted and destroyed in the Riyadh region.

The General Directorate of Civil Defense sent mobile phone alerts at around 1:30 a.m. to residents of Riyadh and Khamis Mushayt, warning of a hostile aerial threat. The alert was lifted a few minutes later. Civil Defense later said the danger had passed in Khamis Mushayt and Abha, and urged residents to follow official instructions and to avoid gathering at or filming such incidents. No damage or casualties were reported from the latest incidents.
On Saturday, Al-Maliki said four drones had been intercepted and destroyed over several hours across the Riyadh region, the Eastern Province and the southern regions, and that two ballistic missile launchers had been destroyed in Yemen’s Saada governorate.
The interceptions follow the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10. The General Authority of Civil Aviation said that attack killed 12 people and injured 309, and the toll later rose to 13 when an injured Indian national died, according to the Indian Embassy.
The Ministry of Education has extended remote learning for schools in Riyadh and neighboring Diriyah, and coalition airstrikes against Houthi facilities in Yemen are continuing.
