Saudi Arabia continues to enhance the services and facilities provided at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah through advanced engineering solutions designed to improve comfort for worshippers and visitors throughout the year.
The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque announced that approximately 117,000 square meters of white Thassos marble have been used to cover the mosque’s rooftop and outdoor courtyards, contributing significantly to the site’s environmental cooling system.
A Unique Blend of Beauty and Performance
White Thassos marble is internationally recognized for its brilliant white appearance and exceptional ability to reflect sunlight while maintaining a relatively cool surface temperature.
These characteristics make it an ideal material for large outdoor prayer areas, helping reduce heat absorption and creating a more comfortable environment for worshippers, particularly during periods of high temperatures.
Visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque can experience the cooling effect of the marble beneath their feet while walking or performing prayers in the open courtyards and rooftop areas.
Supporting Worshippers Through Smart Design
The use of Thassos marble forms part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing the comfort and well-being of pilgrims, visitors, and Umrah performers.
Saudi Arabia has invested extensively in modern infrastructure, innovative technologies, and advanced architectural solutions within the Two Holy Mosques to ensure a safe, comfortable, and spiritually enriching experience for millions of worshippers each year.
The cooling properties of the marble contribute directly to improving environmental conditions within the mosque’s vast outdoor spaces.
Continuous Maintenance and Sustainability
According to the authority, the marble undergoes regular polishing, cleaning, and sanitization using environmentally friendly and safe materials.
These maintenance efforts help preserve its purity, brightness, and thermal performance, ensuring that the marble continues to provide effective cooling benefits while maintaining its elegant appearance throughout the year.
Regular upkeep also guarantees that the prayer areas remain fully prepared to accommodate large numbers of worshippers and visitors at all times.
A Global Model for Religious Infrastructure
The implementation of advanced materials such as white Thassos marble reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to managing and developing the Two Holy Mosques according to the highest international standards.
By combining architectural excellence, environmental efficiency, and visitor comfort, the Kingdom continues to set a global benchmark for the development and operation of major religious sites.
As modernization projects continue, the Prophet’s Mosque remains a remarkable example of how innovation and heritage can work together to enhance the spiritual experience of millions of Muslims from around the world.
