Saudi PIF Expands China Presence With New Shanghai Office

Public Investment Fund has expanded its international footprint by opening a new office in Shanghai, reinforcing the growing economic and investment ties between Saudi Arabia and China.

According to international financial reports, the office was officially registered last year and operates under the fund’s branch in Beijing. The Shanghai office is led by Lily Cong, a former senior executive with extensive experience in China’s financial and investment sector.

The new branch is expected to strengthen the fund’s ability to pursue investment opportunities and strategic deals within China while also encouraging more Chinese companies and investors to expand into the Saudi market.

The move comes as economic relations between Saudi Arabia and China continue to deepen across multiple sectors, including energy, infrastructure, technology, logistics, and finance.

The Shanghai expansion also reflects PIF’s broader strategy to strengthen its global presence in major financial centers. The sovereign wealth fund already maintains offices in New York, London, Hong Kong, and Paris.

Analysts believe the new office will provide the fund with greater access to Asian investment opportunities while supporting Saudi Arabia’s efforts to attract more international partnerships and capital flows into the Kingdom.

With assets estimated at nearly $1 trillion, the Public Investment Fund remains one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds and a key driver of Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation under Saudi Vision 2030.
