Schools in the city of Riyadh and Diriyah Governorate will continue remote learning for another week, with lessons running online until Thursday, October 22, 2026, which falls on 11 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 AH.
The General Administration of Education in the Riyadh Region, which operates under the Ministry of Education, announced the extension on Saturday, October 17, in a statement on its official X account. It said the decision was taken as "part of the continued implementation of precautionary measures" and out of concern for the safety of everyone in the school community.
The decision covers all male and female students, as well as teachers and administrative staff. Lessons continue through the Madrasati platform and other approved educational platforms, following the timetables and instructions issued by each school.
Madrasati is the Ministry of Education's national online learning platform. Students use it to join live virtual classes, receive and submit assignments and take tests, while teachers manage their lessons online. The platform has supported schools across the Kingdom through earlier periods of distance learning, allowing the school year to continue without interruption.
Classes in the capital first moved online on October 11 as a precautionary step. An earlier one-week period of remote study for Riyadh schools ran from September 27 to October 1.
Some universities in the capital have taken similar steps. Alfaisal University and Prince Sultan University informed their students on Saturday night that classes would be held remotely this week.
The administration has not yet announced arrangements for the period after October 22. The current decision applies only to schools in Riyadh city and Diriyah Governorate.
