The Roshn Saudi League will stop for a 46-day mid-season break from December 24, 2026, to February 7, 2027, so that Saudi Arabia can host the AFC Asian Cup 2027, the biggest national team tournament in Asian football.
The Saudi Pro League built the 2026-27 calendar around the Kingdom's hosting of the tournament. The season began on August 13, 2026, and is scheduled to end on May 29, 2027, with 306 matches over 34 rounds. According to the league, about 80 days of the calendar are set aside for international breaks and national team commitments.
The league plans four rounds in each of August, September and October, three in November and three in December. No league matches are played in January. Play resumes with three rounds in February, followed by two in March, six in April and five in May.
The Asian Cup runs from January 7 to February 5, 2027, the first time the Kingdom hosts the competition. The Asian Football Confederation and the local organising committee confirmed eight stadiums in three cities. Riyadh has five: King Fahd International Stadium, which has been renovated, King Saud University Stadium, Al Shabab Club Stadium, Kingdom Arena, and Imam Mohammad ibn Saud University Stadium, which is being upgraded to AFC standards. Jeddah has two, King Abdullah International Stadium and Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium, and Al Khobar will stage matches at a new stadium.
The local organising committee said this month: "Preparations across all organisational and operational areas are progressing according to the approved schedule."
Clubs can also use the break to strengthen their squads, as the winter registration period runs from January 3 to 31, 2027.
