NEOM Port has received its first wheat vessel for cargo discharge, marking a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to strengthen its logistics infrastructure and enhance food security through a collaboration between the National Grains Supply Company (SABIL) and NEOM.
The shipment, carrying approximately 66,000 metric tons of wheat, represents the first grain cargo to be unloaded at NEOM Port, further reinforcing the port’s growing role as a strategic logistics hub on the Red Sea.
Faster Grain Distribution Across Northern Regions
According to SABIL, utilizing NEOM Port will significantly improve the speed of grain deliveries to its branches across northern Saudi Arabia, including Tabuk, Al Jouf, Hail, and Al Qassim.
The company said the move will enhance distribution efficiency, improve service quality, and increase operational flexibility by diversifying logistics gateways and strengthening supply chain resilience.
Supporting National Food Security Goals
SABIL stated that the initiative reflects its ongoing strategy to modernize the Kingdom’s grain supply network through strategic partnerships and advanced logistics solutions.
The company emphasized that expanding logistics capabilities will improve supply chain reliability while supporting Saudi Arabia’s long-term food security objectives and ensuring the continuous availability of essential commodities.
NEOM Port’s Strategic Role
NEOM continues to develop its port into a fully integrated logistics hub connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe through an extensive network of maritime routes, road infrastructure, and multimodal transportation services.
The port is expected to provide comprehensive cargo handling, inland freight transportation, coastal shipping services, and integrated logistics solutions linking destinations across Saudi Arabia, the Gulf region, and the wider Middle East.
The arrival of the first wheat shipment marks another important milestone in the development of NEOM Port and highlights Saudi Arabia’s continued investment in world-class logistics infrastructure in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
