King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Jeddah has developed a first-of-its-kind medical protocol that significantly improves stem cell collection through an advanced predictive algorithm, marking a major breakthrough in transplantation medicine.

The protocol was developed over three years and tested on 138 donors, helping physicians improve treatment planning while enhancing donor safety.

92% Prediction Accuracy

The new algorithm enables medical teams to estimate the expected stem cell yield before the first collection session with approximately 92% accuracy.

This allows physicians to better plan the procedure, minimize unnecessary collection sessions, and improve the overall donor experience.

Outstanding Clinical Results

The protocol achieved a 100% first-session stem cell collection success rate among male donors and a 94.9% success rate across all donors.

It also eliminated the need for third and fourth collection sessions, reducing both medical risks and the burden on donors.

Better Outcomes for Patients

The new protocol also improved stem cell transplantation outcomes, with patients recording a 91.2% survival rate 100 days after transplantation, surpassing global averages for early post-transplant recovery.

The research findings have been published in a leading international hematology journal, highlighting the scientific significance of the achievement.

Advancing Medical Innovation

The development reinforces King Faisal Specialist Hospital’s position as one of the world’s leading academic medical centers and reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued investment in medical research, healthcare innovation, and advanced treatment technologies under the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
