The first batches of fresh dates have arrived at Al-Ahsa’s central markets, marking the beginning of one of Saudi Arabia’s most important agricultural seasons.
Al-Ahsa Oasis produces more than 120,000 tons of dates annually from over two million palm trees, supplying markets across the Eastern Province and throughout the Kingdom.
The early arrival of this year’s harvest has been driven by high summer temperatures, which accelerated the ripening process and allowed farmers to begin harvesting ahead of schedule for several varieties.
More Than 20 Date Varieties Reach the Market
Farmers across Al-Ahsa are currently harvesting more than 20 well-known date varieties, with growing demand from traders and consumers as the season begins.
The harvested dates undergo careful sorting before being offered for sale, with prices varying according to quality, size, color, and flavor characteristics.
Al-Ahsa remains one of Saudi Arabia’s most prominent date-producing regions, with its products enjoying strong demand in both local and regional markets.
Initiatives to Support Farmers and Marketing Efforts
To maximize the economic benefits of the harvest season, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, in cooperation with Al-Ahsa Municipality and other relevant authorities, has launched several initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and improving market access.
These efforts include direct supervision of auctions, organized marketing activities, and dedicated sales platforms designed to connect producers with traders and consumers more efficiently.
Seasonal date festivals and year-round farmers’ markets are also being used to promote local products and strengthen market opportunities.
