American and Saudi investors are working to bring Cristiano Ronaldo into a proposed stake purchase in Al Nassr, the Saudi club he captains. Reports published in September, according to Arab News, put the potential deal at roughly $500 million, though no final agreement has been confirmed.

The investor group pursuing the deal is led by US investment firm RedBird Capital Partners and also includes Saudi company Al-Wasail and former Al Nassr president Ibrahim Al-Muhaidib, Asharq Bloomberg reported. A source told the outlet that representatives of the consortium had met with the Public Investment Fund and submitted an offer for a stake in the Riyadh club, with the aim of completing a transaction before the season ends.

Ronaldo’s own role in the deal is less settled than some early reports suggested. Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported that he had joined the investor group. Asharq’s later reporting, citing a person close to the consortium, described an effort to bring him into the deal. That source said his contract gives him priority to acquire 20 percent of the club if it is opened to private investment — a provision that does not by itself confirm he has bought a stake, according to GOAL.

The ownership discussions come after a change in the Public Investment Fund’s holding in the club. On August 19, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sport transferred the nonprofit foundation’s remaining 25 percent share to the fund, bringing PIF’s ownership to 100 percent. RedBird declined to comment on the negotiations when approached by Asharq Bloomberg, and Al-Wasail and Al-Muhaidib did not respond to the outlet’s enquiries.

An Al Nassr stake would not be Ronaldo’s first move into club ownership. In February, he acquired 25 percent of Spanish club Almeria through CR7 Sports Investments, and his representatives confirmed the purchase without disclosing its financial terms, the Associated Press reported. Almeria is controlled by Saudi businessman Mohamed Al-Khereiji, who bought the club in 2025.
