Women are using artificial intelligence tools at a significantly higher rate than men in Saudi Arabia, according to newly released official data highlighting the rapid adoption of AI technologies across the Kingdom.

The Saudi Internet Report 2025, published by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), shows that 52.8% of female internet users use AI tools, compared with 39.4% of male users.

Overall AI tool adoption among internet users in the Kingdom reached 45.2%, more than doubling from the previous year.

Women Lead Men by 13.4 Percentage Points

The figures reveal a 13.4-percentage-point gender gap in favor of women.

The difference extends beyond overall adoption, with CST data showing notable variations in how men and women use artificial intelligence.

For study and education, AI usage reached 42.4% among women compared with 32.9% among men.

Women also led in creating images, videos and presentations, at 29.7% versus 21.6% for men, as well as language translation, at 26.8% compared with 23.4%.

Men, however, recorded higher AI usage for work-related tasks, at 20%, compared with 14.6% among women.

Information search was virtually equal between the two groups, at 80.8% for men and 80.7% for women.

Young Adults Record Highest AI Adoption

The report also reveals significant differences across age groups.

People aged 20 to 29 recorded the highest AI adoption rate at 55.7%, followed closely by users aged 10 to 19 at 53.4%.

Adoption stood at 46.2% among those aged 30 to 39, before declining to 37.8% for the 40-49 age group, 27.4% among those aged 50-59, and 14.8% for users aged 60-74.

ChatGPT Ranks as Most Downloaded AI App

ChatGPT ranked first among the most downloaded AI applications in the Kingdom, followed by Google Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok and Microsoft Copilot.

Meta AI, Perplexity, Manus AI, Google NotebookLM and HUMAIN also appeared among the top 10 AI applications.

Notably, ChatGPT also ranked as the most downloaded smart-device application overall in the report, ahead of apps including NAFATH, TikTok and Absher.

Information Search Is the Top Use for AI

Searching for information emerged as the most common reason for using AI tools, cited by 80.8% of users.

Idea generation followed at 40.1%, while 37.7% used AI for study and education.

Another 25.7% used the technology to create images, videos or presentations, while 25.1% used it for language translation. Work-related tasks accounted for 17.3%, writing 14.3%, and programming and technical tasks 13.5%.

Saudi Arabia’s Digital Adoption Continues to Accelerate

The rise in AI usage comes amid broader growth in the Kingdom’s digital ecosystem.

Internet penetration reached 99.6%, while 61.3% of internet users spend seven hours or more online every day.

Average monthly mobile data consumption reached 53 GB per person, around three times the global average, while median mobile internet download speed reached 216 Mbps, placing the Kingdom among the top five G20 countries for the indicator.

The findings highlight the growing role of artificial intelligence in everyday digital activity across Saudi Arabia, with the higher adoption rate among women emerging as one of the report’s most notable demographic trends.
