The United Nations Human Rights Council has adopted a Saudi-led resolution on empowering women in cybersecurity by consensus, highlighting broad international support for increasing women’s participation in one of the world’s fastest-growing technology sectors.
The resolution reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued efforts to strengthen digital capacity building and promote greater female representation in cybersecurity at both the national and international levels.
Inspired by the Crown Prince’s Initiative
The resolution builds on the national initiative for women’s empowerment in cybersecurity launched by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia.
The initiative aims to develop cybersecurity skills, expand career opportunities for women, strengthen professional development pathways, and help address the global shortage of cybersecurity talent.
Expanding International Cooperation
Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila, said the resolution demonstrates the Kingdom’s commitment to international cooperation, technical assistance, and capacity building while respecting each country’s national priorities.
He added that the initiative seeks to increase women’s participation in cybersecurity and support their advancement into leadership positions across the sector.
Strengthening Saudi Arabia’s Global Leadership
The adoption of the resolution further reinforces Saudi Arabia’s growing role in global cybersecurity and its commitment to launching international initiatives that support digital development and innovation.
Implementation of the Kingdom’s global cybersecurity initiatives, including women’s empowerment and child protection in cyberspace, is overseen by the Global Cybersecurity Forum Foundation in collaboration with international organizations and specialized United Nations agencies.
