The Red Sea Museum has announced the launch of Red Sea Lab, a STEM-focused summer camp designed for children aged 10 to 14, with the goal of inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.
Running from August 25 to 29 at the museum in Historic Jeddah, the program transforms the museum into an interactive laboratory where participants explore the Red Sea through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Hands-On Scientific Discovery
Through workshops and practical experiments, participants will study the Red Sea’s geological formation, biodiversity, marine heritage, and environmental challenges, including climate change, marine pollution, and coral reef conservation.
The program encourages scientific curiosity while developing critical thinking, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Science Meets Technology
Children will take on the role of young researchers by conducting scientific experiments, building prototypes, using coding and robotics, and creating innovative solutions for real-world environmental challenges affecting the Red Sea.
The initiative highlights how modern technology can contribute to marine conservation and environmental sustainability.
Five Days of Exploration
Each day focuses on a different scientific theme, beginning with the geological history and ecosystems of the Red Sea, followed by coral reefs and marine biology, ocean chemistry, water quality testing, pollution, climate change, underwater exploration technologies, and digital mapping.
The camp concludes with the Red Sea Science Challenge, where participants work in teams to develop practical science-based conservation projects.
Inspiring Environmental Innovation
Final projects may include coral reef awareness campaigns, water-quality monitoring tools, marine species mapping, underwater heritage models, pollution-monitoring concepts, and other innovative ideas that support marine conservation.
According to Eman Zidan, Director of the Red Sea Museum, the initiative reflects the museum’s vision of becoming a vibrant center for learning, discovery, and knowledge exchange while strengthening young people’s connection to the Red Sea through science, culture, and innovation.
