The number is 142, now the highest partnership for the sixth wicket or lower in men's T20 internationals. Azmatullah Omarzai and Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai built it on Thursday, 29 October, beating the 139 Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford made for West Indies against Australia in 2024, and Afghanistan went on to beat Zimbabwe by 19 runs.

Omarzai walked out in the fourth over with his side 5 for 4 and made 116 from 50 balls, including 12 sixes. Wisden lists two further marks. He is the first player from a full-member nation to reach a hundred from No 6 or lower, though his score ranks third overall behind two associate batters. Afghanistan's 221 for 7 is also a men's record for runs added once the fourth wicket had gone, passing a mark India set in 2024.

Zimbabwe answered with 202 for 5, captain Sikandar Raza unbeaten on 106, and Afghanistan took the series with a 2-0 lead before the third match.
