MWL Chief Warns of AI Ethical Challenges at International Conference in Kuala Lumpur

Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, has warned about the growing ethical challenges associated with artificial intelligence, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in the development and use of advanced technologies.

His remarks came during the “Faith in Light of Science and Contemporary Evidence” conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which brought together leading scholars, researchers, and intellectuals from across the region.

Ethical Risks of Artificial Intelligence

During a meeting with young leaders, university students, and researchers from Southeast Asia, Al-Issa discussed future challenges facing younger generations, including the ethical implications of artificial intelligence.

He identified the lack of transparency and accountability as one of the most serious concerns surrounding AI systems.

Al-Issa also highlighted the risks associated with data processing, warning that privacy violations and misuse of personal information remain significant issues.

In addition, he noted that biased datasets can result in unfair decisions, discrimination between individuals or groups, and the creation of misleading content that may negatively influence societies and decision-making processes.

International Gathering of Scholars and Leaders

The conference attracted prominent Islamic scholars and muftis from ASEAN countries, along with senior Malaysian ministers and government officials.

Participants explored the relationship between faith and science in an era of rapid technological advancement and discussed the role of intellectual and religious institutions in addressing emerging global challenges.

Launch of a Multilingual Scientific Journal

During his visit, Al-Issa also attended the launch of the Scientific Miracles in the Holy Qur’an and the Noble Prophetic Sunnah journal.

The publication will be available in Malay, English, Chinese, and Hindi, aiming to expand access to scientific and Islamic research for diverse audiences worldwide.

Participation in Regional Forums

Al-Issa also addressed the Third International Summit of Religious Leaders and the Fourth Forum of the Council of ASEAN.

The discussions focused on strengthening interfaith dialogue, promoting coexistence, and addressing contemporary global issues, including the societal and ethical impact of emerging technologies.

His participation reflects the Muslim World League’s broader efforts to foster dialogue, peace, and responsible engagement with the challenges shaping the modern world.
