Egypt international Mostafa Zico has stressed that his team’s focus will not be solely on Lionel Messi when facing Argentina in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Egypt is preparing for a highly anticipated knockout clash against the reigning football powerhouse as the tournament continues across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Respect for Messi, Focus on Argentina
Speaking ahead of the match, Zico described Lionel Messi as one of the greatest football players in history and expressed his admiration for the Argentine captain.
However, he emphasized that Egypt’s preparation is centered on the entire Argentina squad rather than a single player, noting that Argentina possesses quality throughout its lineup.
Egypt Target Another World Cup Surprise
Zico acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge but insisted that Egypt will enter the match determined to secure victory and continue its World Cup journey.
Egypt reached the Round of 16 after defeating Australia in a penalty shootout, while Argentina advanced by overcoming Cape Verde in a 3-2 victory.
