Midday Outdoor Work Ban Begins Through September Measure Aims to Protect Workers During Extreme Heat

The Kingdom has begun implementing its annual midday outdoor work ban for private sector establishments as part of ongoing efforts to protect workers from heat-related health risks during the summer season.

The regulation will remain in effect until September 15, 2026, prohibiting outdoor work under direct sunlight between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day.

The measure is designed to strengthen occupational safety standards and improve workplace conditions across various sectors.

Reducing Heat Stress and Occupational Risks

The ban aims to prevent illnesses and injuries associated with prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures, including heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

Authorities emphasize that the policy helps create safer and healthier work environments while encouraging employers to adopt preventive measures that protect workers and maintain operational efficiency.

The initiative is particularly important for construction, infrastructure, and other outdoor industries where employees spend extended periods in open environments.

Compliance Reached 94% Last Year

According to official data, compliance with the regulation reached 94% during 2025, reflecting strong awareness among employers regarding occupational safety requirements.

The high compliance rate also highlights the effectiveness of inspection programs and awareness campaigns implemented across the private sector.

Officials expect continued improvement in adherence levels as companies strengthen their safety procedures.

Employers Urged to Implement Preventive Measures

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has called on employers to organize working hours in accordance with the regulation and ensure adequate protective measures are in place.

These measures include providing drinking water, shaded rest areas, personal protective equipment, and worker awareness programs focused on preventing heat-related illnesses.

Employers are also encouraged to monitor workers’ physical conditions during periods of extreme heat.

Strengthening Workplace Safety Culture

The ministry emphasized the role of occupational safety and health officers in ensuring compliance with the regulation and maintaining safe work environments.

The annual ban forms part of broader efforts to promote workplace safety, improve quality of work life, and protect employees from seasonal environmental risks.

Through continued regulatory development and safety initiatives, the Kingdom aims to create healthier and more sustainable working conditions across all sectors.
