Expo 2030 Riyadh Accelerates Construction and Reveals Long-Term Legacy Plans

Construction and infrastructure development at Expo 2030 Riyadh are rapidly advancing as Saudi Arabia prepares to host one of the largest and most ambitious World Expos in history.

The event is expected to attract more than 42 million visits and participation from 197 countries between October 2030 and March 2031.

During a site walkthrough, project officials highlighted major progress across the expo grounds while unveiling plans for the site’s long-term post-event transformation into a sustainable urban destination.

95% of Expo Infrastructure Will Be Repurposed

Talal Al-Marri, CEO of Expo 2030 Riyadh Co., revealed that around 95% of the infrastructure being developed for the expo will be repurposed after the event.

The site is planned to evolve into a permanent “Global Village” featuring:

  • Cultural venues.
  • Retail and dining destinations.
  • Entertainment facilities.
  • Educational spaces.
  • Residential developments.
  • Integrated business hubs.

Al-Marri said Riyadh during Expo 2030 will become a meeting point for 197 cultures, nations, and ideas from around the world.

Massive Infrastructure Designed to Last

Murad Al-Sayed explained that infrastructure investments are being designed to support both the expo itself and its future legacy phase.

The project includes:

  • Large-scale power, water, and communication networks.
  • Permanent reusable facilities.
  • Sustainable international pavilions.
  • Advanced transportation systems.

Officials confirmed that more than 6.2 million cubic meters of earthworks have already been completed, while 77% of development zones have been handed over for the next construction stages.

Dedicated Metro Station and Road Expansion

The site will include a dedicated metro station directly connected to King Khalid International Airport and key areas across Riyadh.

A nearby hotel is also under development, while expansion work on King Salman Road will improve access to the expo site and nearby strategic projects, including Roshn and King Salman International Airport.

$67 Billion Economic Impact and 171,000 Jobs

Expo 2030 Riyadh is expected to:

  • Contribute $67 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP.
  • Create 171,000 direct and indirect jobs.
  • Train more than 52,000 volunteers.

The expo site itself spans over 6 million square meters, including extensive logistical and service zones.

Strong Focus on Safety and Operational Excellence

Project officials confirmed that more than 1.5 million safe working hours have been achieved so far, with strict safety standards and workforce welfare measures in place.

A permanent 400 MW power connection agreement has also been signed, with completion targeted for the first quarter of 2029.

A Global Vision for the Future

Expo 2030 Riyadh will be held under the theme “Foresight for Tomorrow,” positioning the Kingdom as a global platform for innovation, sustainability, and international collaboration in line with Saudi Vision 2030 ambitions.
