Diriyah Club has captured attention following its historic promotion to the Saudi Pro League, not only because of the achievement itself but also for bringing several former league champions back to top-flight football.
Diriyah secured promotion after defeating AlUla 2-1 in the Yelo League promotion playoff final, earning a place in the Saudi Pro League for the first time in club history.
Among the most notable returning names is veteran goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah, who returns to the league after a two-season absence. He has been one of the Saudi league’s most experienced goalkeepers, participating in every edition since 2008 and winning league titles with both Al Shabab and Al Nassr.
Midfielder Abdulelah Al Malki also returns to the Pro League after previously winning the title twice with Al Hilal during the 2021-2022 and 2023-2024 seasons.
The returning group also includes Malian striker Moussa Marega, who enjoyed a successful spell with Al Hilal between 2021 and 2023 and helped the club secure the league title during a dramatic title race with Al Ittihad.
Goalkeeper Ahmed Al Ruhaili, who was part of Al Ahli’s title-winning squad in the 2015-2016 season, is also among the experienced names joining the club’s top-flight journey.
The blend of experience and ambition highlights Diriyah’s intention to build a competitive project for its debut Saudi Pro League campaign, relying on players with proven success in major domestic competitions.
