The project is located within the world’s third-largest Dark Sky Park, between Gharameel Nature Reserve and Harrat Uwayrid Reserve, creating a destination that combines AlUla’s deep celestial heritage with the future of scientific discovery and innovation.
The initiative reflects AlUla’s broader vision to become a global center for exploration, knowledge, and inspiration, offering visitors an extraordinary opportunity to connect with the universe under some of the clearest night skies on Earth.
Cosmic-Inspired Architecture
AlUla Manara features a striking architectural design inspired by spiral formations found throughout the universe, including galaxies, planetary rings, and cosmic star clusters.
Its exterior also draws heavily from AlUla’s natural landscape, using textured stone materials that reflect the region’s sandstone mountains and UNESCO-recognized heritage environment.
The design integrates advanced sustainability features, including shading systems that reduce energy consumption while preserving the pristine dark-sky conditions essential for astronomical observation.
A Scientific Hub and Immersive Tourism Experience
AlUla Manara is envisioned as far more than a traditional observatory. It will offer a complete ecosystem that combines education, scientific research, and immersive tourism.
The destination will feature interactive exhibitions, immersive galleries, a state-of-the-art planetarium, scientific research facilities, and a rooftop observation deck for world-class stargazing experiences.
The project will also include hospitality facilities such as restaurants and educational spaces designed for visitors, researchers, and astronomy enthusiasts.
By combining science with interactive learning, Manara aims to provide visitors with direct engagement in real-time astronomical discovery.
Strengthening AlUla’s Global Position
AlUla Manara represents another major milestone in the Royal Commission for AlUla’s efforts to establish the region as a world-class destination blending heritage, culture, and specialized tourism experiences.
The project is expected to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position in astronomy, innovation, scientific research, and sustainable tourism, in alignment with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
Manara is widely seen as a future landmark that could become a defining global icon for AlUla, much like Maraya has become a world-renowned symbol of architecture and culture.
