Taif Rose Evolves into a Year-Round Industry Driving Saudi Economy and Tourism

Once known primarily as a seasonal spring flower, the Taif rose has evolved into a thriving year-round industry thanks to modern processing facilities that transform the flower into high-value products for domestic and international markets.

The industry now connects rose farmers with advanced manufacturing plants that produce perfumes, cosmetics, essential oils, and natural skincare products, extending the commercial life of the flower far beyond its traditional harvest season.

A Harvest Rooted in Tradition

According to leading rose grower Rashid Al-Qurashi, cultivating Taif roses requires year-round care, beginning with winter pruning, followed by irrigation and soil management before the harvest season, which lasts approximately 45 days.

Flowers are picked before sunrise when their essential oils reach peak concentration, ensuring the highest product quality.

Growing Global Demand

Al-Qurashi said international demand for Taif rose products continues to grow, encouraging farmers to expand cultivation while supporting processing facilities that make the products available throughout the year.

He also highlighted government support for agriculture and local manufacturing, which has helped producers adopt more sustainable farming methods, improve productivity, and implement modern irrigation systems to address climate and water challenges.

Beyond Rose Water

Hamed Al-Hudhali, owner of a Taif rose processing plant, said technological advances in distillation and extraction have dramatically expanded the industry’s product range.

Today, factories produce luxury perfumes, cosmetics, skincare and haircare products, concentrated essential oils, natural soaps, and even food products such as confectionery and tea infused with Taif rose extracts.

A New Saudi Success Story

Al-Hudhali explained that maximizing every stage of the production process has significantly increased the value of the local crop while ensuring year-round product availability.

He described the partnership between farmers and manufacturers as the foundation of the industry’s success, enabling both sides to grow while strengthening the international reputation of Saudi-made products.

The transformation of the Taif rose from a seasonal flower into a globally recognized premium brand reflects Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to diversify its economy and develop sustainable, value-added industries under Saudi Vision 2030.
