A complex surgical operation to separate Syrian conjoined twins has begun at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh. The twins, who are joined at the chest and abdomen, are undergoing the procedure as part of Saudi Arabia’s world-renowned conjoined twins separation program.
The surgery is being led by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, General Supervisor of the program, and involves a multidisciplinary medical team of over 30 surgeons, anesthetists, intensive care specialists, and medical imaging experts.

The procedure is expected to last approximately 10 hours and will go through multiple stages, including anesthesia, surgical separation, and reconstruction. Prior medical assessments and imaging confirmed that the twins are viable candidates for separation with a high chance of success.
This initiative highlights the Kingdom’s humanitarian commitment to offering advanced medical care to children in need from around the world. It also underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing reputation as a regional hub for complex pediatric surgical procedures and global medical outreach.
