Saudi actor Sultan Al-Maqbali says the long-running drama series “Al-Mirath” marked the biggest turning point in his acting career, giving him widespread public recognition and opening new opportunities in television and film.
The actor also revealed that he is currently preparing several new projects, including a television series based on his own original concept that is planned to run for three seasons.
“Al-Mirath” Was the Career Breakthrough
Al-Maqbali explained that filming “Al-Mirath” coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the cast and crew spent nearly three years working together outside the Kingdom.
He described the experience as living like one family, with daily filming schedules that helped build strong chemistry among the cast and contributed to the show’s remarkable success.
According to Al-Maqbali, the series significantly expanded his fan base and strengthened his reputation among production companies.
Refusing to Be Typecast
The actor said he intentionally avoids being limited to one genre.
He hopes to continue playing a wide variety of characters, including romantic roles, villains, action heroes, comedic personalities, and psychologically complex characters, believing that versatility is essential for every successful actor.
New Film Projects
Al-Maqbali recently completed filming the feature film “Case 404,” directed by Hisham Al-Abdi and starring Ali Al-Sabaa, Zara Al-Balushi, and Egyptian actor Mohamed Al-Hadary.
He has also wrapped filming “The Place Is Not Under Camera Surveillance,” alongside Bahraini actress Shaila Sabt and Saudi producer and actor Ahmed Al-Tuwaijri in his acting debut.
Waiting for “Eshtibah”
The actor expressed surprise that the television series “Eshtibah” has yet to be released despite filming having concluded some time ago.
The production features several well-known Gulf actors, including Laila Al-Salman, Turki Al-Yousef, Ahmed Shuaib, Turki Al-Kuraidis, and Reem Al-Ali, and is produced by Jamal Sinan.
A New Series from His Own Vision
Al-Maqbali revealed that he is developing an original drama created from his own idea.
The project consists of ten episodes and has already been planned as a three-season series.
He said development has reached an advanced stage, with the concept officially documented and marketing efforts already underway ahead of production.
Leading Roles Depend on Strong Stories
Al-Maqbali believes that starring roles are earned through powerful storytelling rather than celebrity alone.
Throughout his career, he has played leading roles in productions including “Shaaban in Ramadan,” “Our Neighborhood Is Beautiful,” “You Win or You Lose,” “Shad Balad,” the feature film “The Ghost,” and the Kuwaiti series “Jama’na Al-Hawa.”
He emphasized that every successful production depends on the combined efforts of writers, directors, actors, and the entire production team.
Clear Professional Boundaries
The Saudi actor said he is open to portraying almost any character provided it does not conflict with societal values or religious principles.
Looking ahead, he hopes to star in an action-comedy project, describing the genre as the one that best reflects his personality and artistic ambitions.
