South Korea has announced the deployment of nearly 20,000 police officers in the city of Busan to ensure the security of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, one of the most significant international events hosted by the country this year, with leaders from 21 member economies expected to attend.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the plan marks the largest security operation in Busan’s history, involving heightened protection around summit venues, hotels, and airports, as well as the deployment of counterterrorism, crowd control, and emergency response units.

Authorities have also enhanced electronic surveillance and traffic management systems to facilitate smooth movement for official delegations. Police are working closely with military and intelligence agencies to ensure a safe and stable environment throughout the summit period.

The APEC Summit, set to take place in November, will address key issues including global economic stability, digital transformation, energy security, and climate change, with participation from leaders representing the US, China, Japan, and Southeast Asian nations.

This year’s summit is seen as a strategic opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation and reaffirm South Korea’s role as a key player in Asia-Pacific security and sustainable development.
