A major milestone has been achieved by the animal health laboratory of the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases in Riyadh, which has gained international recognition from 33 countries, including 27 EU member states, the United States, Japan, and several Gulf nations, to conduct testing for equine diseases linked to cross-border movement.
This recognition reflects Saudi Arabia’s advanced capabilities in laboratory sciences and strengthens its role in regulating the import, export, and movement of horses, while supporting its growing presence in both local and international equestrian competitions.
The achievement is built on a highly reliable laboratory system featuring precise procedures and top-tier quality standards, ensuring accurate and efficient testing outcomes that meet global benchmarks.
It represents the result of comprehensive development efforts carried out between 2021 and 2025 to enhance laboratory infrastructure and diagnostic capabilities in animal health.
This progress has also enabled the export of horses with officially approved national certifications, demonstrating the Kingdom’s expertise in diagnosing diseases associated with international equine movement, in line with Vision 2030 goals to advance the livestock and equestrian sectors and strengthen Saudi Arabia’s global standing.
