The Saudi Heritage Commission has launched a groundbreaking national initiative called “Nuqoosh”, aimed at rediscovering and showcasing the rich civilizational legacy of the Arabian Peninsula as the world’s first economic gateway.
The project focuses on documenting and studying ancient rock inscriptions scattered across various archaeological sites, which serve as a living archive of the social, cultural, and economic life of early inhabitants of the region. These inscriptions provide evidence of historic trade networks, caravan routes, and economic practices that once connected the Arabian Peninsula to neighboring civilizations.
The initiative also emphasizes the importance of protecting and preserving archaeological sites, while raising public awareness of the inscriptions’ historical value. It is expected to position the Kingdom as a global hub for the study of ancient civilizations and to serve as a cornerstone for promoting cultural tourism, in alignment with Vision 2030.
