General Entertainment Authority is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month after a decade of driving major cultural and entertainment transformation across Saudi Arabia.
Since its launch in May 2016, the authority has focused on regulating the entertainment sector, issuing licenses, supporting investors, and building a sustainable entertainment ecosystem aligned with the Kingdom’s broader development goals.
Building a Global Entertainment Destination
Over the past decade, Saudi Arabia has emerged as one of the world’s leading entertainment destinations through major events and large-scale seasonal festivals.
Among the authority’s most successful initiatives is Riyadh Season, first launched in 2019 and now recognized globally as one of the largest entertainment events in the world.
The Riyadh Season brand is estimated to be worth approximately $3.2 billion, highlighting its rapid international growth and influence.
Major Events and International Recognition
Joy Awards has also become one of the region’s flagship entertainment events, attracting leading Arab and international celebrities while receiving extensive media attention.
As part of its expansion strategy, Saudi Arabia also launched “Beast Land” in partnership with global content creator MrBeast, reflecting the Kingdom’s ambition to create innovative global entertainment experiences.
Investing in Saudi Talent
The authority has also invested heavily in developing Saudi talent through specialized programs designed to prepare national professionals for leadership roles in the entertainment industry.
These initiatives have contributed to job creation and strengthened local participation across multiple entertainment sectors.
Numbers Reflecting Massive Growth
Turki Alalshikh stated that the Kingdom’s entertainment ecosystem has evolved significantly over the past decade through more than 39 entertainment seasons and 21 major programs.
According to official figures, these initiatives have attracted more than 320 million visitors and helped strengthen Saudi Arabia’s global position in the entertainment industry.
A Vision for the Future
The General Entertainment Authority continues to move forward with ambitious plans aimed at further developing the sector through new projects and initiatives that support Saudi Vision 2030.
The past decade reflects a major transformation in Saudi Arabia’s cultural and entertainment landscape, positioning the Kingdom as a growing global hub for creative experiences and live entertainment.
