The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification has announced the cataloging of more than 550 sites of perennial trees across Saudi Arabia, marking a significant step in preserving this unique natural asset as part of the Kingdom’s national identity and environmental heritage.
The center highlighted that perennial trees symbolize resilience and life, withstanding harsh climatic conditions and serving as a living testimony to the deep bond between people and the land. Protecting them, it stressed, is not only an environmental duty but also a long-term investment in public health, cultural heritage, and national pride.
This initiative extends its impact to social, cultural, and economic dimensions, including conserving natural and historical heritage, raising environmental awareness, promoting eco-tourism, supporting local economies, and reducing the costs associated with desertification and land degradation.
The center continues to develop, rehabilitate, and monitor vegetation cover sites nationwide, combat illegal logging, and ensure the sustainable use of rangelands, forests, and national parks. These efforts directly contribute to the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative, reinforcing the Kingdom’s broader sustainability and environmental commitments.
