Saudi Arabia has received high praise during United Nations meetings in Geneva for its global leadership in advancing early warning systems for sand and dust storms, highlighting its commitment to environmental protection, public health, and international cooperation in disaster risk reduction.
The recognition came during the Global Early Warning and Early Action Forum, where the Kingdom showcased its pioneering initiatives led by the Regional Sand and Dust Storm Warning Center, the first of its kind in the region, headquartered at the National Center for Meteorology in Riyadh.

The forum highlighted the Kingdom’s scientific and technical achievements, including the development of advanced forecasting models, enhanced monitoring systems, and improved early response mechanisms aimed at mitigating the impacts of dust storms on public health, transportation, and economic activities.
UN officials commended Saudi Arabia for serving as a global model in leveraging cutting-edge technologies and building national capacities to address climate-related challenges. They also applauded its strong support for the “Early Warnings for All” initiative launched by the UN Secretary-General.
