Three students from Riyadh have earned recognition after winning Epson’s ReCreators competition, an initiative designed to promote sustainability and recycling awareness among young students by encouraging them to transform discarded materials into creative works of art.

The competition was launched on World Sustainability Day last October and invited schools across the Kingdom to participate. It targeted students aged seven to twelve and aimed to introduce them to the importance of recycling and environmentally responsible everyday choices.

Creative Projects Turn Waste into Art

The competition featured three categories: Best Use of Recycled Materials, Most Creative Design, and Most Practical or Inspiring Idea. Entries were evaluated by Epson’s regional representatives along with influencer Dina Butti.

The winners were Saud bin Ibrahim Al-Aouda and Thunayan bin Turkey Al-Shehri from Kawarzmie School, as well as Fahd Mansour Al-Jaafari from Al-Salam School, both located in Riyadh.

Their winning creations included a star-shaped lamp made from discarded wood, a coffee table crafted from an old tire combined with sackcloth and a glass top, and a decorative vase sculpture created using recycled paper, tissue paper, and watercolors.

Encouraging Environmental Awareness Among Students

Ahmed Saeed Elgamal, an art teacher at Kawarzmie School, praised the students for their creativity and innovative thinking, noting that the competition encouraged participants to reflect on the impact of waste and the importance of recycling.

He added that the initiative highlighted how creativity can play a meaningful role in promoting environmentally conscious behavior and sustainable habits among young generations.

Each winning student received an Epson EcoTank printer, while participating schools were awarded Epson projectors in recognition of their involvement and support for creative learning initiatives.

Supporting Sustainable Development Goals

Bella Tobing, Head of Corporate Sustainability and Government Affairs at Epson, said the initiative was designed to help young people develop new skills, think creatively, and express their ideas while caring for the environment through the use of recyclable materials.

She added that the competition also raised awareness about the importance of reuse and recycling as effective ways to reduce waste and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, while fostering a stronger culture of environmental responsibility among future generations.
