Riyadh Art Installs New Public Artwork on Pedestrian Bridge

Riyadh Art has unveiled a new public artwork on a pedestrian bridge located at the intersection of King Abdulaziz Road and Hisham bin Abdul Malik Road, adding another landmark to the capital’s growing collection of public art installations.

The artwork, titled “Run Beyond,” was created by Italian artist Angelo Bonello and features a light-based sculpture depicting a running figure captured mid-leap.

A Light Sculpture Inspired by Motion

The installation uses illuminated silhouettes and carefully programmed LED lighting to create a dynamic visual effect that conveys continuous movement and rhythm.

Originally presented during the Noor Riyadh 2021 festival, the artwork was later reimagined in 2022 and acquired as part of the Riyadh Art Permanent Collection.

Positioned above a major roadway and integrated into a pedestrian bridge, the piece reflects the program’s vision of incorporating art into everyday urban life and making creativity accessible to residents and visitors alike.

Bringing Art into Daily Life

According to Riyadh Art officials, the installation represents another milestone in the expansion of the city’s permanent public art collection.

The initiative aims to transform public spaces throughout Riyadh by placing artworks in streets, neighborhoods, transportation routes, and key civic locations.

Run Beyond contributes to a growing network of artistic landmarks designed to enrich the city’s cultural identity and enhance quality of life.

Global Artistic Vision in the Saudi Capital

Angelo Bonello is internationally recognized for exploring movement, spatial perception, and urban transformation through large-scale public installations and interdisciplinary artistic projects.

Over the course of his career, he has developed more than 150 projects showcased in over 300 cities worldwide.

Bonello described the permanent installation of Run Beyond in Riyadh as an honor, noting that the Saudi capital has become one of the world’s most dynamic centers for contemporary cultural transformation.

Led by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, Riyadh Art is one of the world’s largest public art initiatives and one of the capital’s flagship Vision 2030 projects.

Since its launch in 2019, the program has installed 75 permanent artworks across Riyadh and attracted more than 17.3 million visits through its festivals and public art initiatives, with additional installations planned for the coming years.
