Yasmin Seif Abou El-Naga, the only daughter of renowned Egyptian actress Naglaa Fathy and her former husband, architect Seifallah Abou El-Naga, has died after suffering a sudden and severe heart attack, according to an announcement by her father.
The news was announced on Sunday, with Seifallah Abou El-Naga confirming his daughter’s death and stating that her funeral and burial ceremonies would take place that evening following the Isha prayer.
Naglaa Fathy’s Only Daughter
Yasmin was the only child born to Naglaa Fathy and Seifallah Abou El-Naga, who married in the mid-1970s following the actress’s first marriage to Ahmed Khalil.
Despite Naglaa Fathy’s long-standing status as one of the most prominent figures in Egyptian and Arab cinema, she largely kept her family life away from the spotlight, with details about her daughter’s private life receiving little public attention.
Naglaa Fathy and Seifallah Abou El-Naga later separated. In 1992, the actress married Egyptian journalist and writer Hamdy Kandil, and their marriage continued until his death.
Seifallah Abou El-Naga and His Memorable Film Role
Yasmin’s father comes from a family with strong ties to Egypt’s artistic community. Seifallah Abou El-Naga is the elder brother of actor Khaled Abou El-Naga.
Although he built his professional career as an architect rather than an actor, he remains remembered for a notable appearance in one of Egyptian cinema’s best-known films, “Embratoreyet Meem” (Empire M), released in 1972.
In the film, he portrayed Mustafa, the eldest son of the character played by legendary actress Faten Hamama. The role became his most prominent cinematic appearance before he stepped away from acting and focused on his career in architecture.
A Sudden Loss for the Family
Yasmin’s death came unexpectedly following the acute cardiac episode, leaving the family facing a sudden and deeply painful loss. Her father’s announcement also confirmed that funeral rites would be held shortly after her passing.
The news has brought renewed attention to the private family life of Naglaa Fathy, one of the defining stars of Egyptian cinema, whose decades-long career includes numerous influential films that secured her place in the history of Arab entertainment.
