An Egyptian court has accepted an appeal filed by the former social media manager of Egyptian singer Sherine Abdel Wahab, overturning a previous EGP 50,000 fine and acquitting him of accusations related to taking control of her online accounts and refusing to hand over their passwords.

The court also rejected the civil lawsuit filed against him, marking a new development in the legal dispute surrounding the management of the singer’s official social media accounts.

Court Accepts Appeal and Overturns Fine

The ruling came after the defendant appealed an earlier judgment that had imposed a fine of EGP 50,000.

Following its review of the case, the court accepted the appeal and acquitted the former social media manager of the charges against him, while also rejecting the related civil claim.

Defense Presents Its Legal Arguments

During the appeal proceedings, defense lawyer Sherif Hafez argued that the referral order did not include the charge stipulated under Article 27 concerning the management of electronic accounts.

The defense maintained that his client could not be punished under a legal provision for which he had not been formally referred by the Public Prosecution.

Official Report Cited Over Password Handover

The defense also submitted documents indicating that the defendant had filed an official report in 2025 expressing his willingness to hand over the account passwords directly to Sherine Abdel Wahab or to a representative holding a specific power of attorney.

According to the defense’s submissions, no response was received to that offer at the time.

How the Legal Dispute Began

The Public Prosecution had previously referred the defendant to criminal trial before the Economic Court over allegations that he had taken control of Sherine Abdel Wahab’s official social media pages.

The case followed complaints filed by the singer’s lawyer accusing an individual of controlling her accounts across social media platforms.

Sherine’s Lawyer Denied Any Transfer of Account Ownership

In the complaints, Sherine Abdel Wahab’s lawyer maintained that the singer had not signed any contracts to sell or transfer ownership of her social media pages or electronic accounts to any individual or entity.

The ownership and management of the accounts and their passwords subsequently became central to the legal dispute, before the appeals court ultimately acquitted the former social media manager and rejected the civil lawsuit filed against him.
