A Cairo misdemeanor court has ordered the detention of the suspect accused of killing an entire family in the Al-Narges area of New Cairo for an additional 15 days pending investigations, as authorities continue examining one of the most closely followed criminal cases in Egypt in recent days.
The case began after a report was filed concerning the disappearance of the head of the family. Security investigations later uncovered the deaths of a man, his wife and their two daughters. Authorities subsequently identified and arrested the suspect, who was reportedly a friend of the family’s father.
Egyptian Interior Ministry Details the Case
According to Egypt’s Interior Ministry, police received a report from a relative of the family’s father stating that he had gone missing and could no longer be contacted.
Officers went to the family’s residence and found his vehicle showing signs of blood and gunfire. The bodies of his wife and two daughters were later found inside the wife’s vehicle near their home.
Following investigations and the collection of information, authorities identified and arrested the suspect. The ministry said he also directed investigators to the weapon allegedly used in the crime.
According to the ministry, the suspect admitted during questioning to committing the crime, saying he knew that the victim had kept cash and gold bars at his home. Investigators said financial difficulties were cited as the motive behind the alleged plan to steal the valuables.
Investigation Reconstructs the Sequence of Events
According to the Interior Ministry and Egyptian media reports, the suspect allegedly lured the head of the family into his vehicle before killing him, then went to the family’s residence and allegedly told the wife that her husband had been involved in an accident and taken to hospital.
The woman subsequently left with her two daughters, after which the three were also killed, according to the preliminary investigation. The suspect then reportedly returned to the area around the family’s residence and left the vehicle nearby.
Investigators said the suspect later attempted to enter the family’s home to steal the money and gold but was unable to do so after encountering the building’s security guard. Authorities subsequently identified and arrested him.
Crime Scene Reconstruction Conducted
As part of the continuing investigation, prosecutors accompanied the suspect to several locations connected to the case to reconstruct the alleged sequence of events.
The reconstruction involved forensic experts and specialists from the forensic medicine authorities and was conducted under heightened security measures.
The locations included the family’s residence in the Fifth Settlement and an area along the Ain Sokhna road. Investigators are using the reconstruction to compare the suspect’s statements with forensic evidence, medical reports and other findings gathered during the investigation.
Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that prosecutors are awaiting final technical reports before taking further legal action. The suspect faces allegations including premeditated murder and robbery, according to the report.
Prosecutors Continue Their Investigation
At the beginning of the investigation, prosecutors ordered the suspect to be detained for four days pending questioning. They also ordered forensic examinations of the victims to establish the causes and timing of death, requested further police investigations and ordered authorities to preserve surveillance camera footage from the crime scene and the suspect’s route.
The latest 15-day detention extension allows investigators additional time to complete the evidence-gathering process and finalize technical and forensic reports before determining the next legal steps.
