Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Neymar, Casemiro, and Danilo have played their final matches for the national team, describing Brazil’s 2026 FIFA World Cup exit as the end of an important generation and the beginning of a rebuilding phase.
The announcement followed Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16, marking the country’s earliest World Cup elimination since 1990.
A New Generation Begins
Ancelotti said Brazil will now focus on developing younger players capable of leading the national team into future competitions, with Copa América 2028 identified as the first major target of the new cycle.
He noted that Neymar, Casemiro, and Danilo, all over the age of 30 during the tournament, represent the closing chapter of one of Brazil’s most experienced generations.
Neymar Bids Farewell
Neymar also confirmed that his international career has come to an end, expressing pride in everything he achieved while representing Brazil.
The forward made his international return during the World Cup after recovering from injury, although his role in the tournament was limited.
Experience Will Remain
Despite the planned transition, Ancelotti emphasized that Brazil will retain several experienced players to provide continuity during the rebuilding process.
He highlighted Marquinhos as one of the leaders expected to guide the next generation as Brazil begins preparing for its future ambitions.
