Al-Ittihad Parts Ways with Sergio Conceicao After Disappointing Season

Al-Ittihad Club has officially announced the departure of Portuguese head coach Sergio Conceicao following a comprehensive evaluation of the team’s recent performances and results.

The decision marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Jeddah-based club as it seeks to rebuild and return to title contention both domestically and on the continental stage.

Club Confirms Departure

In an official statement, Al-Ittihad confirmed the termination of Conceicao’s contract with immediate effect, thanking the coach and his staff for their efforts during their time with the club.

Management stated that the decision was made after a thorough review of the team’s progress and in alignment with the club’s long-term ambitions and objectives.

Season Fell Short of Expectations

Al-Ittihad finished the 2025-26 Saudi Pro League season in fifth place with 55 points, a result that fell below expectations for a club accustomed to competing for major trophies.

The team also exited the AFC Champions League Elite in the quarterfinals after losing to Japan’s Machida, while their King’s Cup campaign ended in the semifinals following a penalty shootout defeat against Al-Kholood.

Conceicao’s Record

Conceicao took charge of Al-Ittihad in October 2025, replacing French coach Laurent Blanc after a difficult start to the season.

During his tenure, the Portuguese manager oversaw 41 matches across all competitions, recording 21 wins, seven draws, and 13 defeats.

While the team showed flashes of quality during certain periods, overall results were not enough to secure his continuation for another season.

Search for a New Era Begins

Al-Ittihad confirmed that details regarding the club’s future technical leadership will be announced through official channels in the coming weeks.

The focus now shifts to identifying a new head coach capable of restoring the club’s competitiveness and guiding the team back into contention for domestic and international honors.

High Expectations Ahead

As one of the most successful clubs in Saudi and Asian football, Al-Ittihad faces significant expectations from its supporters.

The coaching change is widely viewed as the first step in a broader rebuilding process aimed at strengthening the squad and returning the club to its traditional position among the region’s elite teams.
