Al Hilal Confirms Board Continuity Under Nawaf bin Saad for 90 Days Following Ownership Transfer

Al Hilal Saudi Club has confirmed that its current board of directors, headed by Prince Nawaf bin Saad, will remain in place after the Ministry of Sport began transferring the stake held by the club’s non-profit institution to the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Al Hilal Club Company said in an official statement that the term of its current board has been extended for 90 days effective July 17, 2026, allowing the board to continue its strategic and supervisory responsibilities over the company’s operations, contracts and commitments.

25% Stake Transferred to PIF

The announcement came after the Ministry of Sport confirmed that it had begun transferring the shares held by the non-profit institutions of Al Hilal, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli and Al Nassr, representing 25% of each club company, to PIF after completing the required regulatory procedures.

The ministry also announced the dissolution of the boards of the four clubs’ non-profit institutions as part of the second phase of the ownership transfer process under the Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project.

As a result, the 25% stake previously held by Al Hilal’s non-profit institution is being transferred to PIF.

Al Hilal Board to Continue Its Duties

Al Hilal Club Company clarified that the transfer of the non-profit institution’s stake does not mean the end of the current club company board’s mandate.

According to the statement, the board, led by Prince Nawaf bin Saad, will continue carrying out its strategic and supervisory responsibilities, including overseeing the company’s operations, contracts and existing commitments.

The board’s term has been extended for 90 days starting July 17, 2026, with the club saying that any related developments will be announced in due course.

The decision allows the current management to continue overseeing Al Hilal Club Company during the transition associated with the restructuring of the club’s ownership.

A New Ownership Structure for Al Hilal

The transfer of the non-profit institution’s stake marks another significant change in Al Hilal’s ownership structure.

Under the ownership model introduced in 2023, PIF initially acquired 75% of the four club companies, while the respective non-profit institutions retained the remaining 25%.

The latest move transfers that remaining stake to PIF, creating a new ownership structure for the four clubs while the wider sports sector continues to develop its governance, investment and financial sustainability models.

Operations and Contracts to Continue

Al Hilal confirmed that its board will continue overseeing the company’s operations, contracts and commitments during the 90-day extension period.

The continuation is intended to maintain administrative and strategic stability as the club moves through the ownership transition.

The development comes as Saudi football clubs undergo broader changes in their commercial, administrative and investment structures as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to develop the sports sector.

Al Hilal Enters the Second Phase of Ownership Transfer

Al Hilal is among the four clubs included in the second phase of the ownership transfer process, alongside Al Ittihad, Al Ahli and Al Nassr.

The Ministry of Sport said the transfer of the non-profit institutions’ stakes to PIF forms part of the broader transition toward an ownership model designed to strengthen the clubs’ investment appeal, enhance corporate governance and support their long-term sustainability and growth.

Al Hilal, together with the other three clubs, will continue operating under the new ownership framework while developing its sporting, administrative and investment activities.
