Saudi Arabia continues strengthening its presence in the global culinary and cultural landscape by documenting its rich food heritage through international initiatives focused on preserving traditional products.
In this context, the Saudi Culinary Arts Commission has registered 180 Saudi food products representing all 13 administrative regions under the global “Ark of Taste” initiative.
This step reflects the Kingdom’s growing commitment to preserving and promoting its national culinary heritage on an international level.
The participation highlights Saudi Arabia’s rich diversity in traditional food products, covering agricultural goods, livestock products, and locally rooted food traditions.
Rich Culinary Diversity Across the Kingdom
The registered Saudi products fall under 16 diverse food categories.
These include animal breeds, baked goods, distilled beverages, cheese and dairy products, local coffee, processed meats, fruits, nuts, dried fruits, grains, flour, honey and bee products, legumes, wild mushrooms, oils, fats, salt, herbs, spices, vegetables, and traditional vinegar.
This diversity reflects the richness of Saudi Arabia’s culinary identity and the unique food traditions of each region.
Preserving Culinary Heritage
The inclusion of these products in the Ark of Taste supports the preservation of Saudi culinary heritage and protects traditional products at risk of disappearing due to industrial changes and shifting consumption patterns.
The Ark of Taste is one of the world’s most important initiatives dedicated to documenting endangered food products and preserving culinary traditions.
Its mission includes protecting heritage foods, supporting local producers, raising awareness of biodiversity, and promoting local food culture.
Sustainability for Future Generations
Saudi Arabia’s participation demonstrates a clear commitment to preserving food diversity and ensuring long-term sustainability for future generations.
The Kingdom had previously registered 120 food products between 2022 and 2024.
This year, an additional 60 products were added, bringing the total number of Saudi registered products to 180.
The Culinary Arts Commission continues to support efforts to document Saudi culinary and cultural elements, helping preserve national heritage while strengthening the Kingdom’s culinary presence regionally and globally.
This growing international recognition reflects Saudi Arabia’s vision of transforming culinary heritage into a vital pillar of its cultural economy while preserving authenticity for future generations.
