Saudi Arabia’s Heritage Commission has officially announced the completion of structural restoration works at the historic Al-Dagal Fortress in Abha, located in the Asir region. The project is part of the Kingdom’s broader initiative to preserve and revitalize cultural landmarks, aligned with the goals of Vision 2030.

Al-Dagal Fortress, dating back more than a century, is considered one of Abha’s most prominent historical sites. Perched atop a hill, it historically served as a defensive stronghold and lookout point, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

The restoration project included:

Strengthening the walls and ceilings using traditional architectural materials.

Reconstructing the towers and outer walls to reflect the original design.

Restoring internal corridors and entrances using local stones and natural wood.

Enhancing drainage systems to protect the site from erosion and weather damage.

The Heritage Commission emphasized that the restoration adhered to international conservation standards, with direct supervision by specialists in Najdi and Asiri architectural heritage, ensuring the authenticity and historical identity of the site.

This initiative is part of a larger program to revive heritage sites in southern Saudi Arabia, transforming them into cultural and tourism destinations that contribute to the local economy and strengthen community ties to the Kingdom’s rich history.
