In a historic achievement for the Kingdom, Saudi scientist Dr. Omar Yaghi has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry in recognition of his pioneering discovery of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) — advanced materials used in energy storage, water purification, and atmospheric moisture capture.
This milestone crowns decades of scientific excellence and innovation, making Dr. Yaghi the first Saudi scientist to receive the world’s most prestigious scientific honor.

Dr. Yaghi serves as a Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, and Director of the Kavli Energy NanoSciences Institute, where he has led international research teams dedicated to developing solutions for climate and resource-related issues.
