Prince Saud bin Mohammed bin Abdullah Turki has achieved a landmark milestone, becoming the first Saudi officer cadet to be awarded the prestigious International Sword at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
The award, presented during the Sovereign’s Parade on Aug. 8, recognizes the top-performing international cadet among participants from around the world, honoring exceptional leadership, discipline, and military excellence.
Prince Saud’s historic achievement highlights the depth of Saudi participation at Sandhurst and reflects his dedication, resilience, and ability to lead under pressure.
Brig. Ben Wilde, British Defense Attaché to the Kingdom, praised the accomplishment, noting the long-standing military relationship between Saudi Arabia and Sandhurst, which dates back to World War II.
“This remarkable achievement by Officer Cadet Prince Saud demonstrates the world-class military leadership training Sandhurst provides,” Wilde said. “It is hoped this relationship will grow even stronger as the Kingdom’s armed forces continue to evolve to meet future challenges.”
Wilde emphasized that what set Prince Saud apart was his exceptional physical and mental endurance. He led by example during the most demanding physical challenges, inspiring his fellow cadets — including those observing Ramadan — to maintain peak performance.
He also excelled academically, achieving one of the highest scores in the demanding military planning examination.
On the field, Prince Saud distinguished himself in leading infantry tactical operations, showing composure under pressure, strategic insight, and the ability to inspire his team during realistic combat exercises.
Beyond operational excellence, he served as an outstanding representative of his country, volunteering to lead Eid Al-Fitr celebrations and promoting a deeper understanding of Islamic culture in a diverse environment.
Selfless, professional, humble, and gracious, he emerged as a natural leader and role model for all cadets in his cohort.
“This is a magnificent achievement,” Wilde added. “To be the first Saudi to win this award is a fitting recognition of the determination, courage, and talent he has shown during one of the most demanding leadership training programs in the world. He is an outstanding ambassador for his family and his country, with a hugely promising future ahead.”
Dr. Alice Burt, Chargé d’Affaires at the British Embassy in Riyadh, echoed the praise: “We were thrilled to hear of Prince Saud receiving the International Sword. This is a truly historic achievement and a proud moment for Saudi Arabia. His success reflects his personal dedication and leadership, as well as the strength of the UK-Saudi defense partnership.”
The ceremony at Sandhurst was attended by senior military officials, dignitaries, and members of Prince Saud’s family. The British Embassy extended its congratulations and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening defense ties between the two nations.
