Saudi libraries are undergoing a major transformation as the Ministry of Culture has launched an initiative to convert them into Cultural Houses, dynamic platforms that combine reading, knowledge, creativity, and the arts.
This ambitious project is part of the Kingdom’s broader cultural strategy and aligns with the goals of Vision 2030 to integrate culture into daily life and strengthen its role in society.
The initiative goes far beyond providing books and reading halls. It introduces versatile spaces for cultural and artistic activities, including workshops, art exhibitions, theater and music performances, as well as areas dedicated to digital and technological creativity.

These Cultural Houses are envisioned as interactive environments catering to all segments of society—from children and youth to artists, researchers, and innovators.
According to the Ministry of Culture, the program redefines the role of public libraries, transforming them from static repositories of books into vibrant cultural centers that spread knowledge, inspire creativity, and support the growth of Saudi Arabia’s creative industries.
The initiative also aims to strengthen national identity by showcasing Saudi art and heritage alongside global cultural expressions, fostering cross-cultural exchange and positioning the Kingdom as a hub for creativity and knowledge.
Ultimately, Cultural Houses are expected to fuel the creative economy, open new opportunities for young talents, and provide enriching cultural experiences for communities and visitors alike—cementing Saudi Arabia’s position as a regional and international center for culture and innovation.
