Saudi Arabia Establishes Two New Marine Reserves to Protect Rare Ecosystems

In a major step toward environmental preservation, Saudi Arabia has announced the creation of two new marine reserves aimed at protecting rare ecosystems and endangered marine species along its Red Sea and Arabian Gulf coasts.
The newly designated reserves encompass areas rich in coral reefs, seagrass meadows, and mangrove forests, which serve as vital habitats for diverse marine life.
According to the National Center for Wildlife, the initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and the national environmental strategy to expand protected areas to cover over 30% of the Kingdom’s total land and sea territory by 2030, reinforcing the country’s leadership in regional sustainability efforts.
The center added that ongoing programs will focus on environmental monitoring, ecosystem restoration, and community engagement, encouraging eco-tourism and awareness to ensure long-term protection of these critical habitats.
Saudi Arabia’s new reserves reflect its commitment to global biodiversity conventions and underscore its dedication to conserving natural resources, including marine species, coral reefs, and coastal ecosystems vital to the planet’s environmental balance.
