Saudi Arabia Draws 120 Million Visitors as Global Investors Flock to Kingdom's Booming Tourism Sector

Saudi Arabia has welcomed more than 120 million visitors, Deputy Minister for Tourism Destination Enablement Mahmoud Abdulhadi announced, marking a landmark milestone in the Kingdom’s ambitious drive to become a globally competitive tourism destination and underlining the pace of transformation under Vision 2030.

Speaking on the growth trajectory of the sector, the Deputy Minister highlighted the scale of international interest the Kingdom has attracted. “Over the past five years, we have seen more than 50 new global brands enter our market, along with over 40 new investors who had not previously invested in Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector joining in the last four to five years,” he said, adding that growing interest from international investors is being driven by economic reforms and expanding investment opportunities.

A Destination Attracting the World’s Leading Brands

The arrival of more than 50 new global hospitality and travel brands over a five-year period represents a profound shift in how Saudi Arabia is perceived by international tourism investors. Brands that once regarded the Kingdom primarily as a corporate travel market have moved decisively into the leisure, wellness, culture, and adventure segments, drawn by an increasingly sophisticated infrastructure, a liberalised visa regime, and a government commitment to hosting world-class experiences.

The influx of more than 40 first-time investors into the sector speaks to a market that has genuinely opened up. Saudi Arabia’s mega-projects — from The Red Sea and AMAALA to Diriyah and AlUla — have functioned as powerful magnets, attracting capital from hospitality groups, private equity, and sovereign funds that previously had limited exposure to the Saudi market. These destinations offer scale, government backing, and an audience of domestic and international travellers that continues to grow year on year.

Vision 2030 Tourism Targets Within Reach

The 120 million visitor figure is a significant waypoint toward Vision 2030’s target of attracting 150 million annual visits by 2030. Progress has in several respects outpaced early projections, driven by the rapid expansion of international air routes, the opening of cultural and entertainment venues, and a deliberate strategy of positioning Saudi Arabia across multiple tourism segments rather than relying on a single draw.

Tourism is now one of the most dynamic contributors to Saudi Arabia’s economic diversification effort, with the sector expected to reach a 10 percent share of GDP — up from roughly three percent a decade ago. As global brands deepen their presence and new investors continue to enter the market, Saudi Arabia is not only building visitor numbers but laying the foundations of a self-sustaining tourism economy with genuine long-term momentum.
