Saudi Arabia has officially confirmed the Eid Al Fitr 2026 public holiday schedule for both government and private sector employees, giving millions of workers and families across the Kingdom clarity to plan their celebrations and travel during the most anticipated break of the year.

Holiday Dates for the Private Sector

According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Eid Al Fitr holiday for private sector and non-profit organization employees will begin at the end of the working day on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, corresponding to 29 Ramadan 1447 AH. The break will span four days, with employees expected to return to work after Eid depending on the official moon-sighting announcement that determines whether Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days.

If Ramadan completes 30 days, Eid Al Fitr will fall on Friday, March 20. If the month is declared at 29 days following the crescent moon observation, Eid will begin on Thursday, March 19. In either scenario, the holiday period provides a meaningful window for families to gather, travel, and mark the end of the holy month together.

Government Sector Holiday

Government employees will enjoy an extended break as part of the traditional Eid holiday arrangement. The public sector holiday typically begins from 25 Ramadan, which this year falls around March 14, giving government workers approximately a week of leave that encompasses the final days of Ramadan and the Eid celebration itself. The exact return-to-work date will be confirmed following the official Eid declaration by the Supreme Court.

Saudi Arabia’s approach of announcing holiday dates well in advance reflects the government’s commitment to helping both employers and employees plan effectively. For businesses, the early confirmation allows time to manage staffing schedules, customer service coverage, and operational adjustments during the break.

A Season of Travel and Celebration

Eid Al Fitr is the most significant holiday period in Saudi Arabia’s calendar alongside Eid Al Adha, driving surges in domestic tourism, retail spending, and family gatherings across the Kingdom. Major cities including Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam typically host large-scale Eid events, cultural festivals, and entertainment programmes that draw visitors from across the country and the wider region.

The tourism and hospitality sectors have already begun preparing for the Eid rush, with hotels in Makkah, Madinah, and popular leisure destinations reporting strong advance bookings. Retailers are also gearing up for the traditional Eid shopping season, which sees significant spending on clothing, gifts, and home furnishings in the days leading up to the celebration.

With the countdown to Eid now firmly under way, the confirmed holiday dates provide the framework for what promises to be one of the busiest and most festive periods of the year across Saudi Arabia.
